The Eero Saarinen Tulip Table has become one of the most famous pieces in the Saarinen furniture collection. Created in 1957, this beautiful Saarinen table envelopes the thought and theory behind one of the 20th century's great architects. Constructed of cast aluminum, the table flows from top to bottom and from side to side in a fluid exchange of lines. Saarinen used a variety of bases and tops for various interiors during his career. The Saarinen table shown here is a favorite as it can be used in a variety of spaces but is most commonly used as a dining table.
Eero Saarinen designed the Pedestal Series between the years 1954-1957. The series was launched publicly in 1958 in New York. It included a tulip chair, tulip armchair, dining tables, coffee tables, side tables, and a stool. Over time, Saarinen experimented with various sizes, shapes, and tops for these tables. The initial foundation of this series of furnishings provided a large range from which Saarinen could conduct research. Saarinen tables with glass tops, ashtrays with tulip bases, and chairs upholstered in different ways were all subsequently developed.
